Hillcats Extend Winning Streak to 4 with 65-55 Victory over Missouri Valley

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's basketball team ran its winning streak to four straight games with a 65-55 win over Missouri Valley College on Saturday (Dec. 29) at the Claremore Expo Center.
The Hillcats moved to 7-6 overall with the four wins during a five-game home stretch. The five home games is a part of a streak of seven straight home contests.
Lauren Schuldt totaled 15 points, 14 rebounds and a career-high seven assists to come close to posting the first triple double in school history. She played only 23 minutes due to foul trouble and added two blocks.
Lindsey Byfield went for 12 points and hit four 3-pointers in the win. Also in double figures was Alicia Brown with 10 points.
After Missouri Valley scored the first two points of the game, the navy and red went on an 11-0 run to take an 11-2 advantage early in the contest. Desiree Nelson and Byfield sank 3-pointers and Schuldt hit a jumper for the 11 points of the run.
In the second quarter, RSU pushed the margin to 33-22 on another Byfield triple with 2:18 remaining in the half. The Cats led 34-24 at the halftime break.
The Hillcats extended the lead to 15 at 46-31 in the third quarter on a Nelson 3 with 5:43 remaining. RSU controlled the second half en route to the 66-56 win.
For the game, the navy and red shot 41.8 percent (23-55) from the field and 38.1 percent (8-21) from 3. The Cats held a 30-14 advantage in points in the paint and out-rebounded the Vikings, 39-27.
The Vikings finished at 39.5 percent (17-43) from the floor. Hilma Mededovic scored a team-high 13 points, and Shanelle Tolley tallied 10 points.
The Hillcats open Heartland Conference play on Jan. 10 against Newman at 5:30 p.m. at the Claremore Expo Center. The contest is the sixth straight home game for the navy and red.
