Santa Days fun for young and old

Linsy Weber lets loose a live chicken into the crowd of children waiting to catch it. "Chicken Chase" was just one game provided for the children. Whoever caught the chicken could keep it.

God blessed the Freedom community with pleasant weather to welcome a day for young and old to enjoy a Christmas tradition – Santa Days. Thanks to the community teens, who have fond memories of Santa Days when they were young, the youngsters and their families enjoyed yet another year of food, fun and fellowship.

In what was a truly community effort, Santa Days offered a free stew and chili lunch with cornbread; games like cake walk, corn-hull toss and bingo; a silent auction and a visit from Santa. Those serving the lunch said they served nearly 100 bowls of soup.

Many community members donated funds for the meal and made cornbread and desserts. The Chamber donated the candy for the sack of goodies handed out by Santa and The Store donated gift certificates for prizes. Chickens were donated by Casey Luddington and Linsy Weber for the children's Chicken Chase game. Participants who caught a chicken got to keep it and also won a gift certificate from The Store.

Having only nine days to plan and carry out this event, Casey Luddington (one of the teens who led this effort), is thankful to all those who helped. "We thank the whole community for working together to make Santa's trip to Freedom possible."
