DURANT, Okla.– Hannah Villines turned in a 12-point effort, Leighton Taylor added 10 points and Ryann Goodsell grabbed 10 boards, but the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns basketball team was unable to overcome a slow start offensively as the Golden Suns (5-6, 2-3 Great American Conference) fell 80-59 to Southeastern Oklahoma (6-4, 4-2) on Thursday in Durant.

Arkansas Tech will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 5, facing East Central in Ada, Okla. A 1 p.m. tip-off is scheduled.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Southeastern Oklahoma opened the game on a hot streak, using back-to-back 3-pointers to open up a 6-2 lead just over a minute into the game.

Tech was able to cut its deficit to two (15-13) on a pair of Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse 3-pointers with 1:17 remaining in the opening quarter, and that score held into the quarter break.

SOSU scored 10 of the first 13 points of the third quarter to jump ahead 25-16 with 6:15 to go until half.

Southeastern outscored the Golden Suns 11-2 over the final four minutes to carry a 16-point (38-22) into the halftime break.

The Savage Storm stretched its second-half lead to as many as 31 points (77-46) with 3:53 to play before the Golden Suns outscored SE 13-3 down the stretch to cut the final margin to 21.

Tech was held to 18.8 percent from the floor in the first quarter and 22.2 percent in the second quarter.

The Savage Storm were 11-of-29 from 3-point land while the Golden Suns were 3-of-19.

Tech held a 6-4 advantage in points off turnovers, but the Savage Storm held a 7-6 advantage in second-chance points, a 30-18 advantage in bench points, a 26-20 advantage in paint points, and an 11-5 advantage in fast-break points.
