Three from Freedom die in collision with tree

Three people from Freedom died Friday, Jan. 4, when their vehicle hit a tree. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports the victims as the driver Vickie I. Limestall, 55, and two passengers: Marvin L. Nixon, 65, and a girl, age 12. Since the girl is a juvenile, her name has not been released.

The crash occurred around 2 p.m. Friday on SH50 approximately nine miles north of Mooreland in Woodward County.

Limestall was driving a 2000 Ford F350 north on State Highway 50 when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle departed the roadway to the right and struck a tree. She was pinned in the vehicle for approximately three hours before being extricated by Mooreland Fire Department using Jaws of Life. The OHP report says none of the vehicle occupants was wearing a seatbelt.

All three occupants were pronounced dead at the scene from injuries. They were taken to Billings Funeral Home in Woodward and then transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Oklahoma City.

Trooper James Crowder investigated the scene assisted by Troopers Charity Robertson and Cody Creswell as well as Lt. Mike Fike. Assisting at the scene were the Mooreland Fire Department, Mooreland EMS, Freedom Fire Department, Freedom EMS and Woodward County Sheriff’s Office.
