Alva victorious over Blackwell

The Alva Goldbugs win at home 70-58 versus the Maroons of Blackwell in Friday night's match-up.

The Goldbugs put up a strong offensive performance after returning from Christmas break. Alva featured four players in double figures in the game and found themselves reaching the 70 point mark for only the second time this season.

Dylan McGuire led the Alva team with 18 points in the game. McGuire also grabbed 24 rebounds in the contest. Eight of his rebounds were on the offensive end while the remaining 16 were on the defensive end. McGuire shot 60 percent from the floor on 6 of 10 shooting on the night.

Donald Blalock added 15 points in the game, 13 of which came in the second half. Blalock shot 80 percent from the floor on four of five shooting.

Mitchell Meyer was third in scoring for the Goldbugs, adding 13 in the game. Lastly Cameron Gordon rounded out the double figure scorers with 11 points in the game.

Alva rebounded the basketball very well in the game, grabbing 38 total rebounds to Blackwell's 24. The Goldbugs also took 46 free throw attempts in the game making 26. The Bugs shot 48 percent (19 of 40) from the floor.

Blackwell featured two scorers in double figures. Worthy Shepherd scored a game-high of 25 points in the contest before fouling out late in the game. Kendall Burtner added 15 points in the game; nine of his points came from beyond the three line. JR Punzalan and Bart Cline both had nine points in the game. Both players scored their points from the three-point line.

The Maroons shoot 39 percent from the floor on 22 of 56 shooting. Many of their attempts came from the three-point line late in the game trying to close the gap. Blackwell also took 39 three point attempts in the game making 10.

The Goldbugs' next game is against Frontier Monday, Dec. 7, at 8 p.m.
