AHS' Reece Martin makes a three-point basket over the Perry defender in Thursday night's game, Alva's opening round at the Wheat Classic Tournament.

The Goldbugs fell in the second match-up versus Perry, 73-47, during Thursday night's game in the opening round of the Wheat Capital Basketball Tournament in Chisholm.

The Alva team found themselves down big early versus the Maroons of Perry. Perry jumped on a 14-0 run to start the game. The Goldbugs could not find any rhythm as the team committed four turnovers early in the first quarter.

The first points for Alva came at the 3:16 minute mark as Reece Martin made a three-point basket. Martin came back to hit another jump shot in the game, helping his team to gain momentum in the first quarter. Followed by Martin's efforts, Mitchell Meyer made two free throws to help the team to seven points in the quarter. Alva finished the quarter down 22 to 11.

The Maroons continued their strong performance as the team outscored Alva 15-6. Alva struggled to protect the rim as the Maroons' Mason Drake dominated inside in the second quarter. Alva finished the first half down 37 to 17.

The third quarter proved to be a closer game as Perry barely outscored Alva, 24-23. The Goldbugs found their offense, in part due to Martin's efforts. Martin made several three-point baskets in the quarter along with a couple lay-ups.

Mid-way through the third many of the players who do not see much varsity time entered the game and finished it for the Goldbugs.

Alva will play the winner of the Chisholm versus Fairview game today at 2:30 p.m.
