Baseball Poll Ranks OBU Second

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist is the baseball team expected to give defending champion Southern Arkansas the strongest test for Great American Conference supremacy, according to voting in the league's pre-season poll. Coaches from each of the 12 teams were selected to participate in the annual poll.

The Bison finished in second place with 108 points and three first-place votes, narrowly trailing SAU. The Muleriders were first with 114 points and seven first-place votes.

OBU, under the veteran leadership of Coach Bobby Cox, finished last season with a 31-19 record and qualified for NCAA Division II regional play in its first year of eligibility.

Arkansas-Monticello, the league's regular-season winner, was picked third with 99 points and the remaining two first-place votes. The poll continues with Arkansas Tech (90) in fourth place, Henderson State (85) and Southwestern Oklahoma State (73) in sixth.

The remaining poll is Harding (66) in seventh, Southeastern Oklahoma (52) in eighth, Northwestern Oklahoma State (42) in ninth, Ouachita Baptist (29) in 10th, Southern Nazarene (21) in 11th and East Central (13) in 12th.

OBU begins its season with a three-game game series against Missouri Western beginning Friday, Feb. 1 in Shawnee.
