ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State got 19 points from Mike Fofana and shot 68 percent from the floor in the second half to run away from Ouachita Baptist 82-69 on Thursday evening at Vining Arena.
Fofana led the Reddies with 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting, while Chris Parker added 15 behind four 3-pointers. Anthony Lupardus was the final Reddie in double figures with 12 points.
Henderson (11-5, 6-4) got off to a fast start on the road and used 11 points from both Parker and Fofana to take a 37-29 lead into the break. The Reddies shot just under 52 percent from the floor in the opening half while Ouachita hit on just five of its first 25 shots.
The Reddies extended their lead out to as many as 13 points early in the second half, but with HSU up 54-43 the Tigers went on their biggest run of the day, using a four-point play and two quick buckets in transition to spur an 8-0 run and trim the deficit to 54-51 with 11 minutes to play.
Things remained tight down the stretch but with Henderson leading 65-62 at the 5:24 mark and the Tigers threatening, the Reddies put together the run that put the game away. A 3-pointer from Lupardus, four points from Jeremiah Toney, and a thunderous transition dunk from Fofana highlighted a 17-7 run to close the game for HSU which finally put Ouachita away and secured a big road win.
Henderson was 17-for-25 from the floor in the final 20 minutes of play and held OBU to just 39.7 percent shooting on the night. The Reddies shot a season-high 59.6 percent for the game and out-scored the Tigers 24-7 in transition.
The Reddies play again on Saturday at 3 p.m. when they host Arkansas Tech at the Duke Wells Center.
