Graveside services for Mabelle Schroeder will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2019, at the Freedom Cemetery with Rev. Mark Kinkle officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. Mabelle Frances, daughter of the late Robert and May (Andrew) Strong, was born March 25, 1917, at Alva, Oklahoma, and passed away peacefully January 22, 2019, at her home at the age of 101 years, 9 months and 28 days.

She attended Old Plainview Rural Grade School District #92 and graduated from Freedom High School Class of 1935. Mabelle married Tom Schroeder on December 22, 1938, at Cherokee, Oklahoma. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage prior to Tom's death in January of 1999. To their marriage seven children were born: Carlene, Betty, Stanley, Tommie Gene, Dennis, Roger Neal and Evelyn. Following their marriage they lived on the farm northwest of Freedom where Tom was born.

Tom and Mabelle worked the family Plainview Texaco Service Station and farmed and ranched. Mabelle was a talented cook and seamstress. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family in the home. Her handiwork in quilts, counted cross stitched pictures and Christmas ornaments fill the homes of her children and grandchildren. Mabelle loved to play cards and spent many hours playing Solitaire.

Before Tom's death, they enjoyed traveling in their fifth wheel. She was always looking forward to riding along to get out of the house for a while. Her family was able to follow her wishes of living her final days in her home. She passed just after they learned Stan had been cleared to leave the hospital, always being a good mother and making certain her children were alright.

Mabelle was a member of the First Christian Church, Cimarron Neighbors Club, and Jolly Quilters.

Besides her parents and her husband, Tom, she was preceded in death by two infant sons, Tommie Gene and Roger Neal; a daughter, Evelyn Annette; two grandsons, Marty Dean and Tommy Dean; two brothers, Bob Strong and Kenneth Strong; and two sisters, Faye Rader and Ruby McAllister.
