An unexpected side effect of cancer

My intended column on husband Lynn’s cancer journey was sidelined last week. Lynn was more alert after cutting back on his pain meds, but over the weekend, all he wanted to do was sleep. Monday morning I found him lying on the floor, and he was unable to summon the strength to get up even with my help. The newspaper had an 8 a.m. staff meeting, so I called and Bill Springer came to the rescue.

Lynn was scheduled for an appointment with his oncologist in Oklahoma City on Wednesday to be followed by chemo infusion. We were trying to get a PET scan set for the same day and accomplished that after...
