Clay Bennett resigns from OU regents, citing health concerns

January 31, 2019

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma City businessman Clay Bennett is resigning from the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents, effective immediately, citing health concerns.

University officials confirmed Bennett's resignation on Wednesday, shortly after it was announced at the start of a regents meeting. Bennett is president of the private investment firm Dorchester Capital and chairman of the ownership group of the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder.

A university spokesperson did not elaborate on Bennett's health concerns.

Bennett was first appointed to the regents board by Gov. Mary Fallin in 2011 and was reappointed last year. He led the search committee that picked oil company executive James Gallogly to replace longtime OU President David Boren last year.

Bennett drew the ire of Seattle SuperSonics fans when he moved the NBA franchise to Oklahoma City in 2006.
