Boomer boys run past Goldbugs

Cameron Gordon scores 13 points in the Homecoming loss versus Woodward Tuesday Night.

Like the Ladybugs, the Goldbugs are coming off a 1-2 record at the Cashion tournament.

During the Cashion tournament the Goldbugs played an extra two periods as the latter two games of the tournament went into overtime.

The Goldbugs and the Woodward Boomers played the first quarter of the ball game even, each team scoring 15 points. The Boomers started the first period of the game hot from deep as the team combined for three three-point baskets in the first quarter. Alva's McGuire led the offensive punch as he scored seven of the Goldbugs' 15 points in the first quarter. Coltyn Semmel of Woodward led his team in scoring with seven points in the period, accounting for one of the three-point baskets made in the quarter.

The Boomers began to pull away in the second quarter as Woodward outscored Alva 22-15 in the period. Woodward's Jack McClung scored nine points in the quarter including one from deep (the second of the ball game). His teammate Semmel added six points in the quarter as Alva struggled to contain Woodward's one-two punch. McClung finished the first half with 13 points, followed by Semmel's 12 points.


Goldbug Mitchel Meyer led his team in scoring with six points in the period. Dylan McGuire added four points in the quarter as well.

Woodward continued to extend their lead as the Boomers finished the third quarter, outscoring Alva 26-18. Woodward's Zaine Farley led the team's offensive output with eight points in the quarter. McClung and teammate Max Cheap both added four points in the period.

Goldbug Dylan McGuire countered with six points of his own, followed by Cameron Gordon, who also added four points.


The Goldbugs couldn't do more than chip away at the Boomers' lead in the fourth quarter; Alva outscored Woodward slightly in the period 18-17. McGuire finished the quarter with six points and ended the game with a double-double (23 points and 17 rebounds).

The Goldbugs will play their next game versus Riverside at the Enid Event Center today at 7:50 p.m.
