Woods County 4-H had an excellent day at the Northwest District Livestock Judging Contest on Wednesday at the Garfield County Fairgrounds in Enid. In the Junior 4-H division, the Alva A team placed first, Alva B team placed third and the Waynoka A team placed sixth out of 33 teams from 11 Northwest District counties.

The Alva A team consisted of Avery McMurphy, Jansen Shirley, Mackinze Mackey and Brady Lott. The Alva B team consisted of Brooklyn Murrow, Cade Mackey and Hadlee Ohm.

The Waynoka A team consisted of Breya Beck, Davin Budy, Price Poe and Korbin Ferguson.

Other Woods County Junior 4-H members that judged in the contest were: Kadee Ohm, Katelee Martin and Kase Martin from Alva and Rheata Bouziden, Jake Inman, Rholton Bouziden, Wyatt Milledge, Morris Litzenberger and Whitney Hanks from Waynoka.

In the Individual Awards for the Junior Division, Woods County had five of the top 11 placings out of 122 participants, an outstanding accomplishment. Breya Beck, Waynoka 4-H, was the first-place High Individual. From alva, Avery McMurphy placed second ,; Jansen Shirley placed sixth, Brooklyn Murrow place 10th and Cade Mackey place 11th.

"I am very proud of all of the Woods County 4-H Livestock Judging participants" said Greg Highfill, Woods County Extension educator. "These youth work very hard at improving their judging and reasons skills and it is fun when those efforts are rewarded."

Highfill continued, "Randy Nation works extensively with the Alva Livestock judging teams and is obviously an excellent coach and instructor. In addition, Kara Durkee just formed a Waynoka Livestock Judging club this past fall, and with the support of Mr. Anderson has done a wonderful job."

In the Senior 4-H division, Waynoka 4-H received the third place banner at the awards ceremony. Team members included Novaly Medrano, Makinze Smith, Hunter Durkee, and Austin Rankin.

"Our youth are very blessed to have adult leaders that will commit the time and effort to provide training and education on livestock judging and reasons," he concluded.
