Enid, Okla. – The Goldbugs struggled to contain the Braves, but the Bugs lost Friday night, 66-39.

The Braves jumped out to a large lead in the first quarter as Riverside ended the first period up 22-5. Hugh Edmo of the Braves led the offensive charge as he scored 14 points in the quarter. Edmo scored the majority of his points in fast break/transition possession for the Braves. He also connected from long range twice in the quarter. Titus Owens added six points in the quarter for the Braves.

Alva's Mitchel Meyer was the only player to score for the Bugs as he scored five points in the quarter. Alva responded in the second quarter by outscoring the Braves 18 to 14. Goldbug Dylan McGuire entered the game late in the first quarter and began to make his impact on both ends of the floor in the second. McGuire led the Bugs in scoring with nine points. Hugh Edmo led his team in scoring in the second period as he finished the quarter with seven points (21 points in first half). Alva finished the first half down 36-18 to Riverside.

Alva's defense's struggles continued into the second half as the Goldbugs were outscored 23-15. Reece Martin connected from the three-point line three times in the period. However, despite Alva's offensive output in the third period the game was out of reach by the start of the fourth quarter.

The Goldbugs will play their next game versus Fairview Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 8 p.m. This game will be Alva's senior night game.
