Praise the Lord

Two men have been arrested in the 2013 death of Alvan Charles Nieman at Boise City. May they be punished as they deserve.

Thank you all for rewarding me for the great job I do as City Marshal by letting me run unopposed. Everyone must be satisfied with how things are going, because all the incumbents ran unopposed too.

The president spoke Tuesday evening. I usually don't watch but Cleo wanted to see the second half. There was a lot of God Bless America and ideas on making us greater. The one thing I thought was totally cool was he had holocaust survivors, the people that rescued them, and other special people to recognize. These folks, not politicians, are what really made America great.

By watching Fox News or CNN I can get the unbiased versions of the address. If you go for that bull I just uttered call please, because I have some swamp land to sell you. The rebuttal person for the Democrats was black, a female, and probably a Catholic (all bases covered). She helped the Republicans way more than Trump did.

After church Jack and I got to go to the arcade last Sunday at Wichita, Kansas. We had a blast. I was telling some guys about dropping Dad off at the Kansas Star on the way up. One of my preacher friends was listening and said pinball was no different than slot machines morally. We had a bit of discussion, where he told me I was putting my money in with the expectation of winning something (free games). While this is true, I view it as entertainment.

I am not sure how other preachers (religions) view this, but I know several church-going folks that go to casinos with no thought it will send them to hell. I guess church raffles and bingo come under a different set of morals. The main thing for me is I hope I didn't lose a friend over this. I did get my Bible out and read the Ten Commandments over and nowhere does it say “thou shalt not play pinball.” However, I did find a couple of commandments I do need some work on.

When my brother joined the military in 1969 one selling point was the veterans benefits for all soldiers. It guaranteed you help with education, housing, medical, etc. Many former soldiers have used the services. In 2004 they, George Bush, rewrote the rules on veterans benefits.

My brother Jack had never needed any of the services so never signed up. A few years ago he was needing some medical services so he wanted to sign up for his government promised help. The guy told Jack that he needed to ask a few questions. The first question was how much money do you have? Jack wondered what that had to do with veterans benefits. The guy said if you had more than $70,000 worth of assets you were not eligible, so Jack was left out in the cold. This is a travesty and needs to be abolished. What does how much money you have to do with a guaranteed veterans benefits? You will be just as dead, or just as injured whether you are a millionaire, or totally broke. Why is it that the people that kept us free are treated like second class citizens?
