Police chief relieved for arrest in former officer's slaying

BLACKWELL, Okla. (AP) — An Oklahoma police chief says it was a relief to hear that the suspect in the 2013 killing of one of his former officers was arrested in Mexico.

Blackwell Police Chief Dwayne Wood said Friday there were "no sweeter words." Luis Octavio Frias, accused of fatally stabbing his ex-wife Janett Reyna in front of her children, was arrested Wednesday near Guadalajara, Mexico.

A former Blackwell police officer, Reyna filed a protective order against Frias two days before her death. At the time she was killed, Reyna was domestic violence prevention coordinator for the Ponca Triba...
