February 10, 2019

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Lauren Schuldt set a new school record for blocks in a season, but the Hillcats fell 89-87 in a tight battle with Oklahoma Christian in Heartland Conference play at the Claremore Expo Center Saturday afternoon.

Schuldt finished with four blocks, needing only two to match her own record of 50. The senior tied it early in the first half and then recorded two more in the second half to set the new benchmark.

Schuldt and the Hillcats (10-11, 3-5 Heartland) overcame an early deficit in the first half and stormed ahead with a 29-point second quarter to take an eight-point lead into the break. The Hillcats would grow the lead to as much as 17 before the visitors mounted a comeback.

Oklahoma Christian (11-11, 4-5) went on a 9-2 run to close the third quarter and then slowly chipped away the Rogers State lead until they tied the game at 84 with 2:20 to play.

Both teams would lead in the final two minutes and then the game came back to a tie with the Hillcats missing a chance to take the lead in the last 20 seconds.

The Eagles were fouled on a shot attempt with two seconds to go and Addy Clift sank both shots to put the visitors ahead for good.

Schuldt finished with a team high 19 points in the game. She also had eight rebounds, three assists and a steal to go along with her four blocks.

Alicia Brown recorded a double-double, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Azaria Floyd had 18 points and finished with seven assists. She also had a pair of steals and two rebounds.

Lilly Garner came off the bench to finish with 15 points, including four three pointers.

Rogers State outrebounded Oklahoma Christian 40-33 and the Hillcats were also more effective than the Eagles from behind the arc, with 13 three pointers compared to eight for the visitors.

However, the Eagles went to the free-throw line 29 times, sinking 24 of them while the Hillcats were just 13-of-18 from the stripe.

Rogers State will hit the road and travel to Austin, Texas for a midweek clash against St. Edward's University on February 13. The Hillcats will tip off with the Hilltoppers at 5:30 p.m.
