RSU's Tanner Smith Named GAC Pitcher of the Week

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league's second weekly awards for the 2019 baseball season. Southern Arkansas Brett McGee won the Player honor and Harding's Tanner Smith claimed the Pitcher accolade.

GAC BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Brett McGee, Southern Arkansas, C/DH, Fr., Pittsburg, Texas

McGee continued his strong start as he hit .444 at the HSU Invitational. He hit a grand slam, his first home run of his career, as part of an eight-run rally in a victory against UAFS. He tripled and drove in three runs against Northwest Missouri State. He added two hits and a run scored against Missouri Western. McGee has recorded a hit in each of his first six collegiate games.

GAC BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Tanner Smith, Harding, LHP, Sr., Symsonia, Kentucky

Smith matched his career high with eight strikeouts over 6.0 scoreless innings of work in Harding's 8-2 victory against Truman State on Friday. He surrendered only one hit, a second-inning double, and two walks as he earned he first win of the season. Through two starts, he owns a 1.06 ERA. Harding swept the four-game series by outscoring the Bulldogs, 32-3.

Joe Myers, 3B, Henderson State (Scored five runs and hit .500 during the HSU Invitational); Justin Bundy, OF, Northwestern Oklahoma State (Posted a .533 on-base percentage and a .769 slugging percentage); Emilio Escobedo, C/DH, Southern Nazarene (Homered against Oklahoma City; hit .333 for the week); Nolan Fertig, LF, Harding (Hit .438 with two triples as Bisons swept Truman State); Josh Lincoln, IF, East Central (Went 6-for-11 and scored two runs)


Cooper Cantwell, RHP, Southwestern Oklahoma State (Threw a complete-game win against William Jewell College); Kaleb Honea, RHP, Northwestern Oklahoma State (In three relief appearances, stuck out six and earned a save); Matt Kortendick, RHP, Southern Arkansas (Allowed only two base runners over 6.0 innings out of the bullpen); Alec Lemmon, LHP, East Central (Struck out 10 in 6.0 innings of work vs Colorado Christian); Spencer Taack, RHP, Henderson State (Tossed 4.0 scoreless innings of relief in win vs Northwest Missouri State);
