TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Federal prosecutors in Tulsa say a physician will pay the government nearly $85,000 to settle allegations he was involved in an illegal kickback scheme.
U.S. Attorney Trent Shores said Tuesday 42-year-old Dr. Brandon Claflin, an osteopathic physician, had entered into a civil settlement agreement with the government to recoup costs that resulted from the alleged kickbacks.
Shores says the settlement resulted from an investigation into health care providers who wrote prescriptions for pain creams compounded and sold by OK Compounding.
Prosecutors say that beginning in 2013, Claflin prescribed pain creams for his patients and that OK Compounding paid him "medical director fees." Prosecutors say the payments were actually kickbacks.
The agreement resolves allegations that Claflin had an illegal financial relationship with OK Compounding. Claflin's attorney, Robert Sartin, declined to comment.
