This column begins with a health reminder that hits close to home. Flu seems to be on the increase in the area. Our newspaper office has had three employees out with flu in the last week.

It’s not too late to get a flu shot if you haven’t done so. While it takes two weeks for the immunization to reach peak effectiveness, it can lessen the symptoms if you do get the flu.

If you have the flu and decide to drag yourself out to run errands or get some work done, please don’t. The advice I’m hearing from doctors is to stay home for five days after you experience chills or fever. During that first f...
