Career Highs From Davis, Joiner Lead Hillcats To Big Win

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Junior guard Tavian Davis came off the bench in a big way on Thursday night to help the Rogers State Men's Basketball team defeat the visiting St. Mary's Rattlers by a final score of 88-76.
Davis scored a career high 23 points, leading the team in scoring on the night. The Muskogee native also had six steals, tying the Hillcats (17-10, 6-7) team record for a single game last set by Baron Smith Jr. against the same St. Mary's Rattlers (11-14, 3-10). After 26 minutes off the bench, Davis also finds himself at third all-time in assists in a single season for the Hillcats with five on the night total 92 in three seasons.
Joining Davis in the record books on a historic night for Rogers State was redshirt senior guard Josh Joiner, who finished with a career high 14 points. Joiner tied Davis for the team lead in made three pointers on the night with three. As a team, the Hillcats shot 44.4 percent from behind the arc compared to the Rattlers 31.6 percent.
On a night where both teams were pretty evenly matched statistically, it was this shooting, along with protecting the ball, that made the difference between the two teams. As a team, Rogers State made 35 field goals to St. Mary's 25.The Hillcats forced 19 turnovers in the game and had just seven turnovers.
Along with Davis and Joiner, the Hillcats saw two other players score in double figures in senior guards Tate Turner and Saint Hilaire, both with 16 points. Hilaire added seven rebounds and is now just three rebounds shy of top five on the all-time rebounding list at Rogers State.
Saturday is senior day as the Hillcats welcome the Texas A&M International Dust Devils (6-18, 3-10) to the Claremore Expo Center at 3 p.m. The game is the last home game for seniors Joiner, Turner, Hilaire, Latrell Tidwell, and Chase Littlejohn.
