February 22, 2019
DALLAS, Texas – Just a day after being named the Great American Conference Co-Player of the Week, redshirt junior Colton Whitehouse was honored by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Wednesday.
The NCBWA recognized Whitehouse after a big week last week as he was named the NCBWA Central Region Player of the Week. Whitehouse is the first Ranger to receive the award as a Division II program.
A native of Mansfield, Texas, Whitehouse had an offensive outburst as he hit for an average of .688 (11-of-16) in a win against Northwestern State and a sweep of Southern Nazarene over the weekend. He had a three-run home run against Southern Nazarene, added three doubles and accounted for 13 runs in the three wins.
Whitehouse is second in the conference with a .500 batting average, sandwiched between Andujar (.520) and Luis Mendoza (.486).
Earlier in the week, the NCBWA also recognized the Rangers as a team as they became the first Northwestern baseball squad to earn a regional ranking at No. 5.
