Rape charge filed against Cleo Springs man

A 23-year-old man is charged with three felonies involving a 15-year-old girl. James Carson Reeves of Cleo Springs was charged in Woods County on Feb. 22 with rape – second degree and with two counts of lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16.

The rape charge is punishable by imprisonment of one to 15 years. The other charges are punishable by imprisonment in the state penitentiary for not less than three years nor more than 20 years.

Court records show on Feb. 11 Woods County Deputy Ethan McOsker was dispatched to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked at the Freedom Airport. At 9:27 p.m. he saw an SUV parked at the airport and observed an adult male, identified as James Carson Reeves, climbing from the back seat to the front driver’s seat. He observed a juvenile female in the rear passenger side of the vehicle. Both individuals told him they were only talking, and McOsker told them to leave the airport and go home.

On Feb. 21, Woods County Undersheriff Keith Dale interviewed the girl who said she knew Reeves because he was a friend of her cousin and attended family events. She told him they had been communicating on Snapchat for three to four months and had made arrangements to meet at the high school in Freedom. She said on Feb. 11 she met with Reeves during the evening and got into the backseat of his vehicle. They drove around for a while before parking at the Freedom Airport. She said Reeves got into the backseat and they kissed before engaging in sexual intercourse.

The girl told Dale that when McOsker contacted them, she lied and said they were only talking. She said after McOsker drove off, Reeves was nervous because he would get into trouble.

On Feb. 21, District Attorney’s Investigator Steve Tanio conducted a non-custodial video-recorded interview with Reeves in Fairview. Reeves said he had known the girl since she was eight years old. He said a couple of months ago they began communicating on Snapchat. According to the affidavit, Reeves admitted to taking and sending the girl several pictures of his privates and had received breast pictures from her.

Reeves told Tanio they made arrangements on Snapchat for him to meet her in Freedom on Feb. 11. He described picking the girl up in his SUV, driving to the airport, and getting into the backseat with her where they had intercourse.

He said when they saw the deputy’s head lights, they immediately put their clothes on and told him they were only talking. After the deputy left Reeves said he drove the girl back to her residence.
