Remains identified as Texas man killed aboard USS Oklahoma

 


ABILENE, Texas (AP) — Military officials have identified a 37-year-old Navy seaman from Texas as one of the men killed aboard the USS Oklahoma in the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Authorities announced Tuesday that DNA and other analysis were used to identify remains disinterred in 2015 in Honolulu as those of Seaman 1st Class Hale McKissack.

He was one of 429 crewmen who died on Dec. 7, 1941, when torpedoes struck the Oklahoma, causing it to quickly capsize.

Navy personnel spent the following three years recovering the remains of the crew. Many were interred at two local cemeteries before...
