HSU Surges, Takes Second at Arkansas Collegiate

March 13, 2019

EL DORADO, Ark. — Henderson State put up the second-best round of any team on either day at the Arkansas Collegiate on Tuesday to take second place in the eight team field.

The Reddies shot 13-over 301 in the final round — 10 strokes better than their 311 on Monday — to finish with a 36-hole team score of 612 for the two day event. Host Southern Arkansas held off a charging HSU on Tuesday by three strokes to win the tournament at the Mystic Creek Golf Club.

Three Reddies finished in the Top-10 individually, tied for the most of any team in the field. Mitchell Ford was the high finisher for HSU and shot 3-over 75 on Tuesday to place fourth at 10-over for the tournament. The result is Ford's best finish of the season and his fourth Top-10 finish of the year.

Trey DePriest also shot 3-over 75 in round two to tie for fifth place along with teammate Kevin Boutier at 11-over for two days. Boutier carded a 2-over 74 in his second round.

Cameron McRae wound up just outside of the Top-10 and tied for 11th overall after turning in a score of 5-over 77 on day two to shoot 12-over for the event. Nick Shapiro, Henderson's fifth starter, tied for 18th and was 15-over for 36 holes.

Playing as individuals, Francisco Maciel tied for 33rd, while Christian Woods and Stuart Krog both tied for 36th, and Kasoma Paulino finished in a tie for 47th.

The runners-up finish is the Reddies' fifth Top-2 result of the season. Henderson has not finished outside of the Top-2 at a tournament since taking eighth at the Northeastern State Classic back on Sept. 17-18.

Henderson will play next at the Central Oklahoma Broncho Invitational in Edmond, Oklahoma, on Mar. 18-19.
