Long, OBU Pick Up Wins Against Fort Hays

EDMOND – Oklahoma Baptist picked up a pair of impressive softball wins defeating Fort Hays State in doubleheader Wednesday in Edmond. The Lady Bison were 12-4 winners in game one and completed the sweep with a 11-8 victory in the nightcap.

OBU improved 10-14 after the wins. The Lady Bison will next play Friday when they begin a three-game series with Harding in Searcy, Ark.

In the first game, Demi Dobbs jump started OBU with a grand slam in the first inning to help the Bison to a 5-0 lead. The Lady Bison added another five runs in the fourth inning on a single by Cheyenne Demaree, a double by Dobbs and a two RBI single by Aspen Grimes.

Katie Long went the distance in the circle for OBU for the win. She pitched six innings, allowed 12 hits and four runs. She struck out a season-high eight batters and walked just one.

In game two, Dobbs again slugged a first-inning homer that scored three to give OBU a 4-0 lead. The Bison carried that cushion into the fourth inning before Fort Hays took the lead after scoring eight runs.

The lead was short-lived as OBU answered with seven runs in their half of the fourth. Franki Hull drove in two with a double, Demaree scored one on a single and Shelby Savage blasted a grand slam to put OBU in front to stay at 11-8.
