Seasons of change
March 15, 2019
As I am writing this the wind is blowing with gusts of at least 50 mph. It's a warm day. It feels like the seasons are finally changing. With the power of this wind something must be changing. We all are looking forward to the change of season. With spring is warm weather. Flowers and plants will start to grow and bloom. Some of the birds have migrated back. God’s creation is starting over.
This time makes me think about what my family and I have been through in the last year. We have suffered a loss of a loved one. One of our boys graduated high school and started college. I graduated from Oklahoma Wesleyan University. We also moved here and I became pastor of Cedar Grove Wesleyan Church. We have been here for over six months now. We have adjusted some to life out here at Cedar Grove. It has been harder on some of the family than others.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.” The author goes on in the chapter to list many things that we have to deal with that would be considered change. In all the things that my family and I had to deal with I have seen God work in everything. Some of what we had to go through prepared us for the move here. God also made it possible for us to move here. He has also given us a ministry here at Cedar Grove.
The church has seen changes also. God has been active in the church. We dedicated the old church building that is now at the museum. We have started a new ministry. All of this was done because the people of the church were willing to embrace change and allow God to work through the change.
I challenge the town and community surrounding Alva to accept and embrace change. God wants to do things in Alva and the community. We, the people of Alva, have to accept that things will have to change in order for something wonderful to happen. The change could be allowing new businesses to come in. Change could be allowing new leadership to emerge to take Alva to the next level. The change could be new pastors coming to town. This is something Alva has experienced at several churches in the last twelve months.
There is a time for everything. There is a time to allow Christ into your heart. Allow Him to do a special work in you. Allow Christ to change you. It is a season of change that will warm your heart beyond anything you can imagine. The change starts with each one of us. Are you willing to change? Are you willing to allow change to happen in your heart? In your family? In your church? In your town? In your county? In your state? In your nation? It is my prayer that change will come. A change to Christ.
I close with 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” This requires change.
