March 15, 2019

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene dropped the first game of the series against Arkansas Tech on Friday afternoon 14-1 at Feland Field.

The Wonder Boys entered the weekend as the No. 1 ranked team in the Great American Conference standings and they showed why on Friday. They tallied 18 hits in the game and scored at least two runs in four innings. The Crimson Storm managed just four hits in the contest and also recorded two errors in the field as well.

Jefferson Harris got the start on the mound for SNU as the senior took his fourth loss of the season. He tossed 5.2 innings and allowed nine runs, five of those earned. Ryan Mills and David Lechuga each provided 0.2 innings in relief for the Storm.

Joe Toilolo recorded the only RBI of the game for Southern Nazarene as Garrett Perez, Emilio Escobedo, Elijah Brady, and Cobi Ceron each finished 1-for-3 at the plate.

Arkansas Tech wasted no time in getting on the board as the Wonder Boys pushed a couple of runs across the plate in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead. SNU quickly responded as Toilolo's ground-out to third base in the bottom of the first scored Cole Lee to cut the deficit to 2-1.

After that, it was all Tech as they scored four runs in the third to take a 6-1 lead. They scored eight total runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to bring the run-rule in effect, and the Storm weren't able to extend the game in the bottom of the seventh.

Southern Nazarene will close out the series with Arkansas Tech tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader at Feland Field starting at 12 p.m.
