Everything clicking for Eagles as they complete sweep of TAMIU

March 17, 2019

OKLAHOMA CITY (March 16, 2019) – On an afternoon when pretty much everything went right for Oklahoma Christian's softball team, the result was predictable for the Eagles.

Pitcher Madison Hagood continued her sizzling streak with a two-hit shutout, Hunter Strickland went 3 for 3 in the leadoff spot, Lindsey Stoeckel smacked a home run and OC scored in each inning in an 11-0 rout of Texas A&M International at Tom Heath Field.

OC (21-5, 5-2 Heartland Conference) completed not only a series sweep of TAMIU (12-6, 6-6), but also a regular-season sweep of the five games between the league foes, as the Eagles won twice in Laredo, Texas, last month. OC also moved atop the Heartland standings with Saturday's wins.

Hagood (10-2) picked up her fourth win – and her third complete game – in six days, allowing only a second-inning single to Shelby Edwards and a fifth-inning single to Melanie Gamboa. The Dustdevils never advanced a runner past second base.

OC quickly jumped on TAMIU starter Miranda Martinez (1-1), scoring four runs in the first, one on a double to left-center field by Bailey Strecker and two more on Stoeckel's third home run of the season. The Eagles added three more runs in the second, with Bridget White delivering the big blow with a two-run double, and three in the third, with Sydney Smith and Strickland contributing run-scoring singles.

Daelyn Denny's RBI double down the left-field line in the fourth off TAMIU reliever Melanie Lint made it 11-0 and capped the Eagles' 11-hit performance. The game ended after the top of the fifth due to the run rule, the fifth time this season OC has won in that fashion.

The Eagles will host St. Edward's (Texas) for another three-game league series next Friday and Saturday. The doubleheader Friday will begin at 5 p.m.
