March 24, 2019

"Maxwell" by Brieanna McClure was named the Best of Show on the student side of the contest during the 16th annual Northwestern Art Society Art Show. This painting and all other pieces that won a ribbon in the campus art show will be on display in downtown Alva at the Runnymede Hotel for the First Friday Artwalk on April 5 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The 16th annual Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society (NAS) Art Show will end on campus in the J.W. Martin Library March 29. Winning pieces from the campus show will then move to a special Winners' Only Show in the Runnymede Hotel in downtown Alva Friday, April 5, from 6-8 p.m. during the First Friday Artwalk event that is free and open to the public.

The Best of Show Award is the top prize for the student and non-student entries. This year, two paintings took the top prizes.

In the student contest biology major Brieanna McClure, Dacoma senior, earned the top award for "Maxwell," which was entered in the Paintings area for The Figure/Portraiture. McClure earned $75 and a purple ribbon for her winning artwork.

In the non-student area Northwestern alumna and Waynoka businesswoman Connie Moore entered a piece titled "Point of View" in the Painting category for Landscapes/Nature that earned the purple ribbon.

"I'm so excited with all the entries this year," Angelia Case, NAS sponsor, said. "We have such a wide assortment of work from talented artists. Our students always amaze me, and it's so fun to see how they progress in their work. I'm particularly happy with the larger amount of wonderful fine art in the non-student division. It was fun challenging a few Northwestern alumni and former Art Society members to enter, too. I look forward to challenges again next year."

During the show on campus, those viewing the art in the J.W. Martin Library are able to vote for their favorite piece to help determine a People's Choice winner. This winner will be announced at the Winner's Show April 5.

Students whose art won prizes at the campus show will be able to pick up their prize money at the Winners' Show.

In the non-student area of the 16th annual Northwestern Art Society Art Show Northwestern alumna and Waynoka businesswoman Connie Moore won the Best of Show purple ribbon for a painting titled "Point of View." This piece and all the others will be on display in the J.W. Martin Library through March 29. All winning pieces from the campus show will then be displayed in downtown Alva at the Runnymede Hotel for the First Friday Artwalk on April 5 from 6 to 8 p.m.

A list showing all winners from the campus show is available at http://www.nwosu.edu/art/nas-art-show.

Pieces that did not place at the campus show should be picked up April 1 in the library by 5:30 p.m. They then will be moved to Fine Arts 211 where they may be picked up.

Case encourages all those who have winning artwork to attend the Winners' Show at the Runnymede. Their artwork may be picked up at the end of that show at 8 p.m. or from Fine Arts 211 on April 8 by 5:30 p.m.
