March 29, 2019
The Alva Farmers Co-op partnered with Land O' Lakes for year 2019, to present three matching grants to non-profit organizations serving Alva and the surrounding area. For an organization to receive the gifted funds, they must provide food, services or other necessities for those in need in the community.
The three entities chosen to receive the matching grants are as follows:
• Alva Senior Citizens' Transportation Department – Edith Wiebener, Alva Senior Citizen director, and her board help the elderly by delivering food to their homes and transporting them to and from the center. The transportation department received $3300 to maintain their vehicles and provide services.
• Goldbug Bites – Headed by Alva Middle School (AMS) Counselor Jaci Heaton, this organization's goal is to provide food, clothing or other items of importance to AMS students. This organization received a total of $3,300.
• Alva Wesleyan Food Bank – Pastor Paul Kirk and Associate Pastor Louis Garcia oversee the provision to all needy people in the Alva area with food or hygiene items. The food bank received $3,300 as well.
