The Alva school district is making a concerted effort to help special needs students live up to their full potential. Sherrye Lovelace, special education director for the schools, told the board of education Monday how teachers are accomplishing this.

The enthusiastic Lovelace was accompanied by about a dozen educators, many of whom spoke to the board. The Alva district received a big special education boost through grants from the Arnall Foundation in Ponca City. Last year they were the only school in the state chosen for this grant.
