Wonder Boys roll past Muleriders

 


MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Wonder Boys erupt for 16 hits and 16 runs, led by a 4-for-5 performance from Matt Robbins that included a double and three RBIs, helping the Arkansas Tech baseball team (22-13) defeat Southern Arkansas (21-11) 16-5 on Tuesday afternoon at Walker Stadium at Goodheart Field

The Wonder Boys will return to the field on April 5-6 as Tech hosts Northwestern Oklahoma State for a three-game series at Carl Baswell Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

NOTABLES

Arkansas Tech outhit Southern Arkansas 16-5, with seven different Wonder Boys recording a hit.

Matt Robbins led the charge with a career-best four-hit performance. Dylan McDearmon and Jason Hastings both followed with three-hit performances. Hastings also recorded three RBIs and scored three runs, while McDearmon tallied two RBIs and scored twice.

With his three-hit performance, McDearmon passed Matt Johnson (2010-11) for eighth all-time in program history in career hits with 185.

Jonathon Arrieta and Tristan Thomas added two hits each, Arrieta also scored three runs and Thomas notched three RBIs.

Korey Thompson also scored three runs.

Drake Norton, the reigning GAC Pitcher of the Week, recorded his fourth win of the season after throwing 5.0 innings while allowing five runs and five hits.

Kohl Drake pitched 3.0 shutout innings in relief.

Nolan Withrow closed out the game with a scoreless ninth.
