New Alva mural to go up Saturday

 


Next Saturday a lifetime of service to the community will be recognized in a new Alva mural. Provided the weather cooperates, the mural will go up on the stucco wall in the Holder Drug drive through alley.

The new mural will feature a young Jim and Mary Holder (and other characters) in the interior of the Monfort Drug as it looked in 1950 when Jim arrived in Alva to work there as a pharmacist. When Monfort’s burned down in 1953, Jim and Mary went on to establish Holder Southern Drug Store, which then became Holder Drug when “Doc” Southern retired.
