April 11, 2019

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Bulldog Softball picked up a doubleheader sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State in rivalry action, run-ruling the Rangers in the first game before coming from behind for a walkoff win to secure the series victory.

SWOSU (15-26, 14-18 GAC) has now won four straight games heading into a four-game Great American Conference series this weekend at Oklahoma Baptist.

SWOSU 14, Northwestern Okla. 1 (5 inn.)

The Bulldogs left no doubt in the opener on Tuesday, scoring eight runs on six hits in the first inning and never looking back as they scored a season-high 14 runs to complete the run-rule victory over the Rangers. SWOSU scored eight runs in the first inning, five in the second and one in the third while collecting 15 hits and taking advantage of four errors by Northwestern.

Eight different Bulldogs had at least one hit in the game while nine different players scored a run. Samantha Householder and Hannah Franklin had three hits apiece while Hannah Morris and Householder had three RBI in the game. Morris, Allyson Gafford and Ashtyn McAdoo each had multiple hits in the game as well.

Alisa Friesen (6-10) matched the offensive performance with a strong outing in the circle, limiting Northwestern to five hits and one run in 5.0 innings while striking out four Ranger batters to earn the win.

SWOSU 7, Northwestern Okla. 6

Box Score

The second game of the day followed a completely different script, going to the sixth inning tied 2-2 before the teams combined for nine runs in the final two innings. SWOSU got two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-2 advantage, only for Northwestern to answer with four runs on four hits while using a pair of Bulldog errors to go back on top by a score of 6-4.

Needing two runs to tie and three to win, SWOSU wasted little time getting offensive production in the bottom of the seventh. Amanda Moreno singled to the shortstop and scored when Morris bombed a triple to the gap in right center field to make it a one-run game. Franklin then stepped in and smoked a double to center field, scoring Morris to tie the game with the game-winning run on second base.

With two outs and the go-ahead run on third base, Keanni Barron stepped to the plate and delivered the walkoff hit, a single placed perfectly in the left center gap that scored Franklin to secure the series for SWOSU.

SWOSU used three pitchers in the game, with Miranda Grover tossing the first 6.1 innings before giving way to Kaytlin Donaldson and Friesen (7-10), who recorded the final out and earned her second decision of the day.
