What a party

April 14, 2019

Lots of Dad's friends showed up to wish him happy birthday, share stories and have refreshments. A couple of guys mentioned how rare it was that I gave rather than received free food. My cousins, Allen and Mike Scribner, from Lincoln, Nebraska, showed up. Allen had put together some pictures and other writings for Dad to identify. If you have old pictures, do your family a favor and identify them with the help of the old folks. Do this sooner than later.

Alva's Market made a great looking/tasting cake. Jennifer's friend Mike's daughters decorated it with a farm motif, and it looked great. My son Justin came up with a plan, but fortunately most of the cake was devoured. He wanted to cut out the sentiment: "Happy 90th Birthday, James" and freeze it until my 90th to save on costs for me.

Tuesday was the day for Dad's knee surgery. I am happy to report that not only his, but everyone else that had it done that day, came out fine. My brother is doing the Dad-watching until Friday, then Jack or I will sit with him for a day or two.

Our granddaughter Jaylyn broke her ankle Sunday and was at St Mary’s to see about having it fixed. The doctor looked at the pictures and decided she needed to go up the doctor food chain for repairs so hopefully by the time you read this she will be fixed up. I was not happy that it could not be done in Enid, but was proud the doctor knew his limitations and where to send her next.

With all this going on, I named this The Lost Week at the salvage. We did have a bit of comedy at Enid. Cleo went with me Wednesday in anticipation of Jaylyn's surgery. While waiting, we went to Braums to eat. They had a new salad with many of Cleo's favorite salad things. We ordered two of the new salads and some fries. First thing is we got no fries, so the lady fixed them and charged me for them, which was fine because they never made it to the first ticket.

As we rummaged and ate through the salad it became evident they forgot about half of what should have been in it. I went back over and asked about why this was so, and the manager type guy told me I should learn how to order to get the right food. Really? When you point to the picture, and tell the lady you want the new salad that should about do it.

You'd have thought my Braums nightmare was over, wouldn't you? Jack got back to the hospital and was hungry so we went back to the same Braums for him to eat. I ordered a cherry limeade, and when I got it it was so sour I was puckered up for the kissing competition.

I went back over to the counter to ask if I could have some cherry in my drink and sure enough the guy told me I need to learn how to order what I want. He didn't even offer any cherry for my drink.

I will probably wind up at this Braums again sometime. Anybody that wants to gamble can bet with me. I bet $50 I get the right order the next time I am there, and if I don't, the order taker will go to their grave remembering the day they screwed my order up.

Remember that next Saturday is the Alva Fire Department's Easter Egg Hunt. Thanks to all that work so hard to make it work.
