An Alva man has been charged with sexual battery involving an 18-year-old who was cleaning his house.

Robert Scott Baker, 60, of Alva, is charged with felony sexual battery. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years.

Court records show on March 28 at 2:50 p.m. a woman came to the Woods County Sheriff’s Office to report she had been assaulted by Baker inside his residence. The visibly upset woman told Deputy Chase Bouziden she worked for Baker, cleaning his residence and offices. She said Baker was speaking to her in the kitchen about a woman who works in his office. She said she moved on to the bathroom to continue cleaning and Baker followed her.

She said Baker was standing in the doorway as she cleaned the bathroom. She said the conversation changed and became very uncomfortable. She said that Baker told her “one day I am going to come home and find you naked.” The woman said Baker began telling her that she had been flirting with him by leaving her hours on his pillow. She said she just left them where she knew he would find them.

She said Baker kept repeating that she knew what she was doing and that she was being suggestive. She denied this and Baker said “b…s…, you’re blushing.” She replied that it was very warm in the house. She said Baker kept the temperature in his house very warm and he would often say to her that one day he was going to come home and find her naked.

The woman told the deputy Baker said “let me do something really quick.” As she stood up from wiping off the toilet seat, Baker stood directly behind her and put the thumb of his right hand inside the waistband of her sweatpants, pulling her pants away from her body and exposing her underwear. She said she yelled, “What are you doing? No! Stop!” She said Baker left the bathroom and walked down the hallway. She said she heard him say “stupid” when he entered the laundry room. She said she gathered her belongings and left the house.

Later that day, during a recorded telephone conversation between the woman and Baker, she asked if she could speak with him about what happened earlier. Baker agreed and she asked, “Why did you think that was okay?” Baker replied, “I sincerely apologize. I totally misread what you were doing and I wish it had never happened. It’ll never happen again.” The woman said, “You know I didn’t want you to touch me. You’ve never done that before. I don’t know why you thought that was okay.” Baker said he had spoken with some of his friends and told them about her putting her hours on his pillow, and they told him she wanted him to do something.

The telephone conversation continued for some time. When she asked about going to the police, Baker said, “I really, really screwed up and I hope you don’t destroy my life.” Later in the conversation he offered to give her some money “because you are losing a job.”

On April 1, Bouziden conducted a post Miranda Rights interview with Baker and his attorney. However, under the advice of his attorney, he would not answer any questions directly related to the event.
