Baseball: SNU Concludes Season on Senior Day Against OBU

April 28, 2019

BETHANY - Though the result wasn't quite what they wanted, it was a day of celebration at Feland Field as the Southern Nazarene baseball team celebrated six seniors in the pregame as well Robert Lee, who was coaching in his final game as head coach of Southern Nazarene.

There were smiles, there was tears, but most importantly it was one more day to get together and play a sport so many love.

SNU went on to drop a pair of games to OBU, losing game one 9-0 before dropping a gritty second contest 5-2.

In the first game, the Bison jumped out to a 2-0 lead and used an excellent performance from Jake Lipetzsky to shut down the Crimson Storm offense. OBU made it 3-0 in the third and used two run innings in the fifth, seventh, and eighth to build the lead to 9-0.

SNU could not muster a hit until Tanner Ladon blooped one into shallow left center in the eighth to break up the no-no.

Jefferson Harris pitched six complete and struck out four in the loss while Elijah Brady and David Lechuga each saw action in relief.

In the second game, OBU jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but SNU got a terrific performance from Ryan Mills to keep the Bison in check. Jack Campbell got the bats rolling in the sixth inning with a solo shot while SNU took advantage of an OBU error to even the game at two a piece.

However, the Bison struck for three in the seventh and got three outs in the bottom half to close the door and get the sweep over their rivals.

Mills went 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out three while Cole Lee pitched 2.2 inning, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out three. Lee was also 2-for-4 from the plate along with Campbell, who had the homer and a RBI. Emilio Escobedo added a 2-for-3 day and scored a run.

SNU closes the season at 9-34 overall and 3-30 in the GAC. The Crimson Storm say goodbye to six seniors in Shelby Reese, Garrett Perez, Jackson Hopking, Ryan Mills, Christian Dent, and Jefferson Harris. SNU thanks the six seniors as well as Coach Lee for their tremendous contributions.
