EL RENO, Okla. (AP) — School officials in central Oklahoma say a school bus has become stranded due to heavy rainfall and flooded roads.
Officials with Banner Public Schools say the bus was carrying students to school Wednesday morning when it became stranded in a residential area near El Reno, about 29 miles (47 kilometers) west of Oklahoma City.
Firefighters say the bus driver was trying to avoid high water in the roadway and got stuck while attempting to turn around. Officials say students on the bus were picked up by another vehicle and taken to school. Authorities say a wrecker has been called to the scene to pull the bus out of the water.
Meanwhile, officials in southwest Oklahoma City say emergency crews have rescued seven people from vehicles that stalled in high water.
