Happy Mother's Day to all mothers and grandmothers, young and old, everywhere

Sadly, my mother, mother-in-law and grandmothers from my past have gone to the promised land. God blessed me with a wife, daughter-in law and some sisters-in-law that are all good mothers.

If your mother has passed on, I am sorry; if not, today is the day to start a tradition of calling/visiting as much as possible. If your mother is young, she will appreciate your taking time from the business of life for her. If she is older, or a senior, every time she sees you is special. Lastly if you and your mother are on the outs, ask God to help you both with love and forgiveness. You will never be sorry.

We have had rains this past week like I remember from my youth. The river and all the streams are spilling over their banks. What worried me is history will repeat itself.

One morning you almost need a jacket to go outside. The next day summer arrives and never lets up until fall. Such is life in Oklahoma.

A guy calls me a week or so ago wanting to sell his van. We were way off on price so I gave him some options and away he went. He called Wednesday and wanted to know if I would still buy his van. I told him I didn't want to offer any more money for it. He said that was okay because it was ready to junk. I asked where it was, and he replied "Well, I can see the top okay." It is somewhere in a ditch covered with water. I told him call back after he could see the whole van and we would strike a deal.

“Grandmothers,” an essay by an 8 year old: A grandmother is a lady who has no children of her own, so she likes other people's little girls. Grandmothers don't have to do anything except be there. They are old so they shouldn't play hard or run. It is enough if they drive to the shops where the pretend horse is and have lots of five cents ready. They are often fat, but not too fat to tie a kid's shoes. They wear funny glasses and funny underwear, and they can take out their teeth. Everyone should try to have one, because grandmothers are the only grown-ups who have time.
