MEDFORD, Okla. (AP) — No injuries have been reported following a 4.4 magnitude earthquake in northern Oklahoma.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the temblor was recorded shortly before 3:30 p.m. Friday about 9 miles (15 kilometers) south-southeast of Medford, about 82 miles (132 kilometers) north of Oklahoma City. The earthquake was recorded at a depth of about 3 miles (5 kilometers).

Brandon Fetters, emergency management director for Grant County, told The Oklahoman that he had reports of books falling from shelves but no significant damage.

Thousands of earthquakes in Oklahoma in recent years have been linked to the underground injection of wastewater from oil and gas production. In a statement Friday, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission said it was directing three oil and gas wastewater disposal wells to stop operations until further notice.
