Freedom Chamber of Commerce hosts Woodward Elks steer roping

At Freedom Monday, cowboys participate in steer roping an event in which they had to rope a steer and tie all legs up in a timely manner and the steer cannot be able to escape the knot.

The Freedom Chamber of Commerce hosted a steer roping event at the Freedom rodeo grounds Monday, June 3, at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Sixty-four cowboys from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, South Dakota, Colorado, New Mexico and Nebraska competed in the steer roping event for the best time. Cowboys big and small attended; including 24 time world champion Trevor Brazile, who made his way up on the leaderboard with a time of 11.4 in round 3.

After an all-day three round competition, cowboys Chet Herren of Pawhuska and JP Wickett of Sallisaw tied for best time at 10.3 seconds.
