Public hearing Monday at city council meeting

Even though a bond election has been scheduled for Aug. 13 for the swimming pool project, the City of Alva continues to pursue other funding avenues. A public hearing is scheduled Monday, July 15, during the regular (third Monday) city council meeting which begins at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers. That’s the large room located between the city offices and the fire department in the municipal building.

According to a legal notice published in the Sunday, July 7, Alva Review-Courier, this hearing is about grant funding through the National Park Service, administered by the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department. Any such funding usually requires matching funds from the city.

The legal notice states that “all interested citizens will have the opportunity to give written and oral comments. All senior citizens are encouraged to attend and comment.”

A Facebook post by City Hall – Alva Oklahoma states, “The Mayor has requested any questions be submitted prior to Jul 12th at 5:00pm to City Hall at 415 4th Street. The Mayor and City Council would like to ensure all questions get answered. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.”

The City of Alva website at http://www.alvaok.org has a section providing some basic information about the swimming pool project. Just click on the Swimming Pool Information tab. Also, when in that section, the photos at the top of the web page will scroll through some of the problem areas and damage at the pool. The website also has a section listing all eight city council members and the mayor along with contact information if you wish to discuss city business with them.
