Conservation Corps clearing Hoosic River trail in Vermont

POWNAL, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont Youth Conservation Court is working to clear a trail along the Hoosic River in Pownal for hikers and walkers.

The Bennington Banner reports the trail will give members of the public easier access to the river.

Pownal Recreation Task Force member Ray Rodrigues says now there is "basically a little tiny foot trail that fisherman make through the grass."

The path is going to be widened into a four-foot-wide trail that will include a boardwalk that will provide easy access to the river for canoers and kayakers.

The first week of the two-week job began July 8. The second week has not been scheduled yet.

The project is funded through a $24,000 grant to the town from the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation.
