Patricia Lee Lorenz was born on September 2, 1938, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to LaClida and Umaldy T. Waterfall. Pat went to Stillwater High School before attending nursing school at the University of Oklahoma. She was a nurse at Okeene Memorial Hospital for more than 50 years, where she started her career as a surgical nurse and then transitioned to director of nurses and eventually retired in 2016 from her position as chief operating officer.
