Justin Dowdy started putting on the Alva Bull Battle in 2008 during his senior year of high school. The Bull Battle has become bigger over the years and is now a two-day event. A committee, Western Sports Committee (WSC), was created to help with the bull riding and now the committee has decided they want to help promote outdoor sports to area kids. Fundraisers to help promote and fund the WSC are planned and will begin on Aug. 3 with Shorty's Golf Scramble at the Alva Golf Course.
