Several elections are coming up in the Newsgram area. On July 19, Cherokee voters overwhelmingly passed a sales tax increase of 0.25 percent to support the fire and police departments. The vote was 109 to 17 in favor.

On Aug. 13, polls will be open for City of Alva and City of Waynoka voters. On Sept. 10 there are school elections for the Freedom and Aline-Cleo districts. Alva will also have an Oklahoma Natural Gas franchise election in September.
