1st woman to serve as Montgomery patrol officer retires

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The first woman to serve as a female patrol officer in Alabama's capital city has retired.
The Montgomery Advertiser reports that Cindy Reynolds has retired at age 65.
Reynolds was one of three women who filed a discrimination lawsuit in 1975, contesting the Montgomery Police Department's hiring practices.
In January 1976, a judge agreed the department could not discriminate against women seeking employment as patrol officers purely because of their gender, leading to Reynolds being hired.
