NY science teachers say fossil field trip will boost lessons

HAMBURG, N.Y. (AP) — A group of New York City science teachers has wrapped up a field trip to dig for fossils, with plans to share the experience in the classroom.

With rock hammers in hand, the group this week hunkered down at the Penn Dixie Fossil Park south of Buffalo as part of a professional development program through the American Museum of Natural History.

Teachers involved in the museum's Earth-science Reciprocal Learning Year say students are more engaged in lessons when teachers share their own experiences. Many of the teachers brought back chunks of rock for their students to break...
