Alva women Phyllis Brunsteter and Donna Benson admire some pieces in the Jo Johnson collection at Graceful Arts in Alva.

At the August First Friday Art Walk, Alva women Phyllis Brunsteter and Donna Benson admire some pieces in the Jo Johnson collection. Johnson was a well-known artist and art teacher in this area in the 1960s and 1970s when she died in a car wreck. The Graceful Arts gallery has a display of her paintings this month. Johnson lived many years in the Hardtner, Kansas, area. The gallery put out the word they were seeking her work and many people responded – some recalling taking art lessons from Johnson. Many remember the popular woman was as colorful a character as her art....
